About
Sophie Tassignon (born 29 March 1980 in Brussels) is a Belgian jazz singer, improvising musician and composer who has been based in Berlin since 2008. Her work moves between European jazz, avant-garde and electroacoustic music. In 2013 she founded the Folk-Tassignon Quartet with saxophonist Susanne Folk; since 2015 the group has performed as AZOLIA, completed by bass clarinettist and soprano saxophonist Lothar Ohlmeier and Swiss double bassist Andreas Waelti. For the centenary of Rainer Maria Rilke's death in 2026, AZOLIA presents a programme that sets selected Rilke poems within chamber-jazz compositions.
