Animals as Leaders is an American instrumental metal band formed in 2007 in Washington, D.C., growing out of a solo project by guitarist Tosin Abasi. Their sound blends progressive metal with elements of jazz fusion, funk and electronica, and the group is a leading name in the djent scene. Notably, the band uses no bassist; instead, two eight-string guitarists carry the low end. Since 2012 the lineup has been Tosin Abasi and Javier Reyes on guitars with Matt Garstka on drums. Their acclaimed releases include "The Joy of Motion" (2014) and "Parrhesia" (2022).
