About
The arcadie quartett is a flute quartet from Aachen that has been performing in Germany and neighbouring countries since 1990. Its members are Judith Konter, Susanne Schrage, Olaf Futyma and Matthias Schmidt, who play piccolo, alto, bass and contrabass flutes alongside the standard concert flute to widen the ensemble's sound. The four musicians bring together backgrounds in jazz, symphonic music, singing and historical performance practice, and unlike in a string quartet the parts are not permanently assigned. Composers such as Wolfgang Bartsch, Heike Beckmann and Gottfried Stein have written and arranged works for the four-flute line-up. The ensemble places particular emphasis on programmes combining words and music, among them "Arkadien – eine Annäherung" and "Hör', es klagt die Flöte wieder".
