Freude, Trost und Hoffnung - Motetten von Bach, Mendelssohn, Brahms, Distler
Bachverein Düsseldorf
Kirche St. Lambertus · Düsseldorf
Bachverein Düsseldorf is a choir founded in 1870 by the Düsseldorf music director Wilhelm Schauseil. After suspending its activities during World War I, the ensemble was revived in 1919 under Joseph Neyses and became known for early Baroque and Baroque performances in interpretations regarded as unusually "authentic" for their time. Soloists such as Peter Pears and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau have performed with the group. Under Thorsten Pech (1989–2021) the focus shifted toward demanding a cappella and contemporary repertoire, and since August 2021 the choir has been directed by Alexander Niehues. The ensemble comprises around 30 active singers and gives roughly three concerts per year.
