About

Culk is an Austrian band from Vienna associated with shoegaze and post-punk. The quartet, fronted by multi-instrumentalist and singer Sophie Löw, has been playing together since 2017 and released its self-titled debut album in 2019 on Siluh Records. It was followed by Zerstreuen über Euch (2020), named album of the week by Der Spiegel, and Generation Maximum (2023). Their mostly German-language, self-reflective lyrics deal with conflict, gender roles and violence, carried by distorted guitars and atmospheric synthesizers. Critics have compared their sound to The Cure, Bauhaus, Velvet Underground and Joy Division.
