About
D'espairsRay formed in Tokyo in 1999 and became one of the most widely exported bands of the Japanese visual kei scene. The line-up never changed: Hizumi (vocals), Karyu (guitar), Zero (bass) and Tsukasa (drums). Their sound leaned on industrial, gothic and nu metal rather than pop, across four albums — Coll:set (2005), Mirror (2007), Redeemer (2009) and Monsters (2010). They played Wacken Open Air in 2006 and the US Taste of Chaos tour in 2008. The band broke up in 2011 when Hizumi's rare throat condition showed no sign of recovery. They returned in May 2026 with the single "Rapture" and a first headline show in 15 years; the WORLD TOUR 2027 "REVENANT" brings them back to Berlin and Cologne in March 2027.
