Daniel Caesar (born Ashton Dumar Norwill Simmonds) is a Canadian R&B singer and songwriter. He first built an independent following with the EPs Praise Break (2014) and Pilgrim's Paradise (2015). His debut studio album Freudian (2017) earned three Grammy nominations, winning Best R&B Performance for "Best Part", his collaboration with American singer H.E.R. In 2019 he released his second album, Case Study 01, which was longlisted for the 2020 Polaris Music Prize. His soulful, gospel-tinged sound has made him one of the defining voices of contemporary R&B.
