De Kallendresser are a Cologne dialect group performing Kölsch songs from Willi Ostermann's era through to the present day. Its six members play acoustic instruments including mandolin, guitar, banjo, accordion, piano, double bass and percussion, and sing in close harmony, at times entirely a cappella. They concentrate on the quieter end of the Kölsch repertoire, songs whose lyrics reward close listening, and for that reason often perform without electrical amplification at all. The group takes its name from the Kallendresser, a well-known Cologne figure that also appears in the songs they sing. Alongside their concerts they work to preserve older, handed-down songs in the Cologne dialect.
