dIRE sTRATS is a German tribute band that has been performing the music of Dire Straits live since 2004. It was founded by singer and lead guitarist Wolfgang Uhlich, whom many fans regard as one of the finest interpreters of Mark Knopfler. The band delivers classics such as "Sultans of Swing", "Walk of Life" and "Brothers in Arms" fully live, with no playback or backing tracks. In 2011 dIRE sTRATS won first place at the nationwide Tribute Contest in Koblenz, competing against 100 participating bands. With more than 500 concerts, the group has firmly established itself in the European live-music scene.
