About
Emeli Sandé, born Adele Emily Sandé in 1987 in Sunderland and raised in Alford, Aberdeenshire, is a British singer and songwriter whose voice sits at the meeting point of soul, pop and R&B. She first drew attention as a guest on Chipmunk's 2009 single "Diamond Rings" and on Wiley's "Never Be Your Woman" the following year, both UK top-ten hits, before releasing her own debut single "Heaven" in 2011. Her debut album Our Version of Events (2012) spent ten non-consecutive weeks at number one in the UK and, with a million domestic sales, became the best-selling British album of that year. She performed at both the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2012 London Olympics and went on to win Best British Female Solo Artist and British Album of the Year at the 2013 Brit Awards. A second album, Long Live the Angels, followed in 2016 and a fourth Brit Award in 2017.
