Essosa, born Joy Aiseosa Bakare in 2002, is a British-Canadian R&B singer and songwriter. Raised between London, the Toronto area and Essex by Nigerian parents, she began playing piano as a small child and writing songs by the age of eight. She drew wider attention with the 2023 single "Waste My Time," which went viral on TikTok and passed tens of millions of streams, leading to a deal with Atlantic Records. Her R&B draws on the sound of the 1990s and 2000s across EPs including Dreamworld (2021) and Crush! (2026).
