Goran Bregović, born in Sarajevo in 1950, is a Bosnian musician and composer and one of the most internationally recognized artists from the Balkans. From 1974 to 1989 he was the guitarist and creative leader of Bijelo Dugme, one of Yugoslavia's most influential rock bands. He gained worldwide fame with his film scores for Emir Kusturica's "Time of the Gypsies", "Arizona Dream" and "Underground", as well as Patrice Chéreau's "La Reine Margot". His music blends European classical elements with Balkan rhythms and Romani, Greek and Turkish traditions. Since 1998 he has toured with his Wedding and Funeral Orchestra, performing at venues such as Carnegie Hall and the Royal Albert Hall and collaborating with artists like Iggy Pop and Sezen Aksu.
