About
The Gürzenich-Orchester Köln is one of Germany's most tradition-steeped symphony orchestras, with roots reaching back to the first half of the 19th century. It takes its name from the Gürzenich concert hall in Cologne, where it long performed. Since 1888 it has served as the city's municipal orchestra and is also the orchestra of the Cologne Opera (Oper Köln). Since 1986 it has been based at the Kölner Philharmonie. Its history includes many notable premieres, among them works by Johannes Brahms, Richard Strauss and Gustav Mahler.
