Storm Before The Calm is the band project of pianist and composer Jan Alexander, named after his album of the same title, released by BERTHOLD records on 13 October 2023. The recording line-up is Jan Alexander on piano, Rhodes and synthesizer with Anna Serierse (vocals), Sebastian Mattebo (saxophone), Teis Semey (guitar), Duy Luong (bass) and Karl-F. Degenhardt (drums). Alexander studied at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and at Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen, and completed his studies at the Royal College of Music, where in 2021 he presented a master's thesis on non-isochronous metres. Those irregular time signatures also shape his compositions, which he describes as a journey through peaks, valleys, structure and chaos.
