Krishna Das, born Jeffrey Kagel in 1947 on Long Island, New York, is an American vocalist known for singing Hindu devotional kirtan. In 1970 he traveled to India and became a devotee of the guru Neem Karoli Baba, who gave him the name Krishna Das, following a spiritual path close to that of Ram Dass. Since 1996 he has released seventeen albums, blending Indian mantras with Western musical arrangements and collaborating with artists such as Sting and Rick Rubin. His 2012 album Live Ananda was nominated for Best New Age Album at the 2013 Grammy Awards. The New York Times has called him the chant master of American yoga.
