Nargaroth is a German black metal band founded in 1996, essentially the one-man project of René Wagner (known as Kanwulf, later Ash). He coined the term "German Hateful and Misanthropic Metal" for his raw, misanthropic sound to set it apart from traditional Satanism-focused black metal. Its best-known releases include the debut "Herbstleyd" (1998), "Black Metal ist Krieg" (2001) and "Era of Threnody" (2017). Over the years Nargaroth has toured extensively across Europe and Latin America and is regarded as one of the most influential acts of the German black metal scene.
