Sunn O))) is an American drone metal band formed in 1998 in Seattle, built around guitarists Stephen O'Malley and Greg Anderson. Their sound fuses drone, doom metal, black metal and dark ambient into slow, monolithic walls of sound. The band is renowned for its extremely loud, robe-clad live performances staged amid dense fog. Its name is derived from the Sunn amplifier brand.
