About
System of a Down is an alternative metal band formed in 1994 in Glendale, California, whose members are all of Armenian descent. The line-up consists of vocalist Serj Tankian, guitarist and vocalist Daron Malakian, bassist Shavo Odadjian and drummer John Dolmayan. The band achieved worldwide success with the album "Toxicity" (2001) and hits such as "Chop Suey!" and "Aerials". Their sound blends aggressive metal riffs with Armenian musical influences and politically charged lyrics, including advocacy for recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
