About
Terrence Ngassa (born 15 November 1974 in Bamenda) is a Cameroonian jazz trumpeter and singer. He comes from a family of musicians – his father was solo trumpeter in Cameroon's national orchestra – and in 1993 founded the Medium Jazz Quintet, named best newcomer group at the international jazz festival of Yaoundé. From 1994 onwards he was repeatedly honoured there as Cameroon's best trumpet player. In 2000 a DAAD scholarship took him to the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln to study with Manfred Schoof, and he joined the Europe Africa Jazz Orchestra; in 2002 he received the jazz prize of the city of Cologne. He released the album series “Ngassology” with his Terrence Ngassa Band and has also played with Jasper van 't Hof's Pili Pili and in the bands of Paul Kuhn, Willy Ketzer and Manfred Schoof.
