About
The Runrig Experience, billed on stage as "Beat The Drum", is a tribute project to the Scottish Celtic rock band Runrig, formed on the Isle of Skye in 1973 and retired in 2018 after the farewell "The Last Dance" concerts in Stirling. It grew out of the 2020 lockdown, when Edinburgh-born, Nottingham-based singer and guitarist Richie Muir began posting acoustic Runrig covers on a small Facebook page; with manager Ben Marshall the idea became a touring live show. The band frames the evening as a celebration rather than an imitation — no costumes, no attempt to replace the original — and works through anthems such as "Loch Lomond", "Alba", "Hearts of Olden Glory" and "Protect and Survive". Runrig co-founder Calum MacDonald has publicly praised what they do.
