Turin Brakes are an English folk-rock and indie-rock band formed in 1999 in Balham, London, by Olly Knights and Gale Paridjanian. Their debut album The Optimist LP (2001) earned a Mercury Music Prize nomination and was certified Gold in the UK. The band scored a UK top-5 hit in 2003 with Pain Killer (Summer Rain), while the accompanying album Ether Song peaked at number 4. The long-standing lineup also features drummer Rob Allum and bassist Eddie Myer alongside the two founders. Still active today with albums such as Lost Property (2016) and Spacehopper (2025), they have sold around one million records worldwide.
