Wolves in the Throne Room were formed in 2002 by brothers Nathan and Aaron Weaver in Olympia, Washington; guitarist Kody Keyworth joined the line-up in 2017. Their atmospheric black metal became the template for what is now called Cascadian black metal: long tremolo arcs, imagery drawn from the Pacific Northwest and stretches of dark ambient, heard on “Two Hunters” (2007), “Celestial Lineage” (2011) and “Primordial Arcana” (2021). Eighth album “Estuary”, which arrives on Relapse Records on 23 October 2026, is set a thousand years after the collapse of civilisation and is led by the single “Ghosts Among the Obelisks”. The band performs by firelight and does not allow flash photography.
