The Altes Pfandhaus at Kartäuserwall 20 in Cologne served as the city's municipal pawnshop for over 200 years before being converted into a cultural centre in 2006 on the private initiative of Cologne architect Dieter Tiedemann. The former auction hall became a concert space seating up to 300, while the old pledge-storage rooms were turned into exhibition galleries. Programming centres on jazz alongside art, design and architecture exhibitions, cabaret and readings; the venue in Cologne's Südstadt is reached via tram lines 15/16 and bus lines 106, 132 and 133 to Chlodwigplatz.
