The Kinderoper (Children's Opera) is a dedicated branch of Cologne Opera, founded in 1996 as the first institution of its kind in Europe to stage music theatre specifically for young audiences. Its programme ranges from classic opera works by Purcell, Mozart and Wagner to contemporary opera and world premieres, performed by the International Opera Studio and the opera ensemble with accompaniment from the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne. Alongside its regular productions, mobile shows also tour Cologne's kindergartens and daycare centres.
