Kolumba is the art museum of the Archdiocese of Cologne and, founded in 1853, ranks among the city's oldest museums. The new building, designed by Peter Zumthor, opened in 2007 on the site of the St. Kolumba church destroyed in the Second World War, and incorporates the 1950 chapel "Madonna in the Ruins" by Gottfried Böhm. The museum deliberately does without object labels and was named Museum of the Year in 2013.
