The Subway Club in Cologne's Belgian Quarter has stood on Aachener Straße since 1970, founded by Klaus Appelt as a jazz club in a former brewery cold-storage room, with performances by greats such as Dizzy Gillespie and Chet Baker. Following its closure and renovation in 2001/2002, the programme shifted toward concerts and DJ nights spanning hip-hop and electro, blending its jazz history with a more contemporary music culture.
