The Theater am Schlachthof (TAS) has been an independent theatre in Neuss's Barbaraviertel, near the city centre, since 1994 and is considered the largest free professional theatre in the region. Its two stages, seating 120 and 75, host nearly 200 events a year, mostly on weekends, in front of around 25,000 spectators; STUNK is the theatre's largest touring production, performed in both Neuss and Düsseldorf. Alongside its regular theatre programme, TAS also functions as a socio-cultural centre offering theatre-education programmes for children, young people and senior citizens.
