About

Anke Engelke was born in Montreal in 1965, grew up trilingual, and moved with her family to Rösrath near Cologne in 1971. She was in front of a camera as a child through her school choir; after singing a duet with Udo Jürgens at eleven she was picked up by Radio Luxembourg, and from 1978 she presented there and on ZDF's holiday programme before working as an editor and host at the radio station SWF3. Her national breakthrough came in 1996 with the sketch programme Die Wochenshow, followed by her own comedy series Anke (1999) and the sketch show Ladykracher (2002). In 2004 Anke Late Night made her the first woman in German television with her own late-night slot. She is also the German voice of Marge Simpson, and has won the Grimme-Preis, the German Television Award and the Rose d'Or.
