Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, born in Mechelen in 1960, is a Belgian contemporary dance choreographer. She made her debut in 1982 with "Fase, Four Movements to the Music of Steve Reich" and founded her company Rosas in 1983 while creating "Rosas danst Rosas". Rosas was the resident company of the Brussels opera house La Monnaie from 1992 to 2007. The relationship between movement and music is central to her work, which examines choreographic structure alongside composition, geometry, the visual arts and language, and involves sustained collaboration with musicians, composers, visual artists and writers. Alongside new creations, Rosas keeps its decades-deep repertoire in performance and passes it on to later generations of dancers through teaching.
