Cas Public is a contemporary dance company from Montréal, founded in 1989 by choreographer Hélène Blackburn. She chose the name to distance herself from the myth of the all-knowing choreographer and to gather a diverse group of artists around a shared choreographic research. After early works for adult audiences such as "Suites furieuses" (1995), which established the company in Europe, it is now regarded internationally as a leader in dance for young audiences. Its piece "9.2" grew out of the company's long collaboration with hearing-impaired dancer Cai Glover, who took over the recreation as co-choreographer, and has five performers working with Québec sign language. The score is Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, written when the composer himself was almost completely deaf.
