Hatsune Miku is a virtual singer released in 2007 by the Japanese company Crypton Future Media as a Vocaloid singing-synthesizer voicebank. The character is depicted as a 16-year-old girl with long turquoise twin-tails, and her voice is built from recordings of Japanese voice actress Saki Fujita. Fans around the world have used the software to create tens of thousands of songs, turning Miku into a global pop-culture phenomenon. She performs live as an animated 3D projection backed by a real band, most famously on the international Hatsune Miku Expo tour, which has also brought her to stages in Germany.
