Jakub Józef Orliński, born in Warsaw on 8 December 1990, is a Polish countertenor who is also a trained breakdancer – a second discipline he has occasionally brought onto the opera stage: in Matthew Ozawa's production at San Francisco Opera in November 2022 he opened the evening with a break routine. He has sung leading roles at the Metropolitan Opera, the Royal Opera House, Warsaw’s Teatr Wielki and Oper Frankfurt. An exclusive Warner Classics/Erato artist, he has built his recording career on rarely heard music of the seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries, working with the ensemble Il Pomo d’Oro and musicologist Yannis François to bring forgotten scores back into performance. His 2023 album Beyond contains nine world premiere recordings.
