The Kastelruther Spatzen are a folk-schlager group from Kastelruth in South Tyrol, northern Italy, formed in 1976 by Karl Schieder, Walter Mauroner, Valentin Silbernagl, Oswald Sattler and the brothers Ferdinand and Anton Rier. The line-up that took shape around singer Norbert Rier in 1983 earned a gold record with the single "Das Mädchen mit den erloschenen Augen", and the band has stayed with that alpine sound ever since. Their awards include the Grand Prix der Volksmusik in 1990, several ECHO prizes and repeated wins of the Krone der Volksmusik. Alongside Rier the current septet includes Walter Mauroner, Valentin Silbernagl, Albin Gross, Karl Heufler, Kurt Dasser and Rüdiger Hemmelmann. Every autumn since 1984 they host the Spatzenfest in their home village.
