About

KRS-One, born Lawrence Krisna Parker in 1965 in the Bronx, New York, is an American rapper and producer widely regarded as one of hip-hop's most influential voices. In the 1980s he co-founded Boogie Down Productions with DJ Scott La Rock, whose debut album "Criminal Minded" helped shape hardcore rap. Following Scott La Rock's death, KRS-One continued the group and turned toward politically and socially conscious themes on albums such as "By All Means Necessary" and "Edutainment." His stage name stands for "Knowledge Reigns Supreme Over Nearly Everyone," and he is also known as a teacher, activist and pioneer of conscious rap.
