Mon Rovîa is the stage name of Janjay Lowe, a Liberian-American singer-songwriter who blends West African and Appalachian folk influences into a style he calls "Afro-Appalachian." Born in Monrovia, Liberia, he was adopted by American missionaries as a child and grew up in the United States, including in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He began releasing music around 2017 under a name honoring his birthplace and drew wider attention with EPs such as Sunburnt (2020). Championed by Spotify as an artist to watch and with a large online following, his songs often explore themes of identity, healing and belonging.
