Pierre-Laurent Aimard (born 9 September 1957 in Lyon) is a French pianist especially known for his interpretations of contemporary music. He studied with Yvonne Loriod at the Paris Conservatoire and won the International Olivier Messiaen Competition in 1973. In 1977, at the invitation of Pierre Boulez, he became a founding member of the Ensemble intercontemporain. A sought-after soloist, he has performed with many leading orchestras and conductors and is regarded as one of the foremost interpreters of contemporary piano music.
