The Hu

About

The HU are a Mongolian rock band formed in 2016 in Ulaanbaatar, known for blending heavy rock with traditional Mongolian instruments such as the morin khuur and tovshuur and with throat singing. The band calls its style 'hunnu rock', drawing on the heritage of the ancient Hunnu (Xiongnu) empire, and many of its lyrics reference old Mongolian poetry and war cries. Their 2018 videos 'Yuve Yuve Yu' and 'Wolf Totem' drew tens of millions of views online, and in 2019 'Wolf Totem' reached number one on Billboard's Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart, making The HU the first Mongolian act to top a Billboard chart. They have since toured internationally and become one of Mongolia's best-known musical exports.
