About
Devin Townsend, born on May 5, 1972 in New Westminster, British Columbia, is a Canadian singer, guitarist, and record producer. He founded the extreme metal band Strapping Young Lad and led it from 1994 to 2007 as main songwriter, vocalist and guitarist; its 1997 album "City" was widely acclaimed. He has also built an extensive solo career on his own label, HevyDevy Records, including the four-part Devin Townsend Project album series ("Ki," "Addicted," "Deconstruction," "Ghost"). His metal-rooted music is known for a densely multitracked, wall-of-sound production style and a vocal range that runs from screams to operatic singing. In 2026 he released "The Moth," the album version of a rock opera he had been developing since at least 2017.
