About

PUR have been one of the most successful German-language pop bands for decades. The group formed in 1975 in Bietigheim-Bissingen, first as Crusade and then as Opus; Hartmut Engler has sung with them since 1976, alongside Ingo Reidl (keyboards), Joe Crawford (bass), Rudi Buttas (guitar) and Frank Dapper (drums). After the radio hit “Funkelperlenaugen” (1988) and their first chart entry, “Lena” (1991), came “Seiltänzertraum” (1993); “Abenteuerland” (1995) sold more than two million copies and remains one of the best-selling albums in German pop. In 2001 the band played to a crowd of over 100,000 at the Schalke arena. In December 2026 PUR return with an arena tour, including the Westfalenhalle in Dortmund and the LANXESS arena in Cologne.
