Purple Schulz (real name Rüdiger Schulz, born 25 September 1956 in Cologne) is a German pop singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. He broke through in the 1980s with the single “Sehnsucht” (1985), which reached number 6 in the German charts and won the Goldene Europa award. After early work with the band Purple Schulz und die neue Heimat, he launched a successful solo career in German-language pop from 1985 onward. Between 2001 and 2011 he frequently performed as an acoustic duo with guitarist Josef Piek. He has released more than a dozen studio albums and continues to record and tour into the 2020s.
